Trump’s militarized occupation of D.C. will now stretch into next year.
John,
Donald Trump just extended the National Guard’s deployment in D.C. through at least the end of February. And now officials are signaling troops could stay through next summer.
That would be a full year of military occupation in a city home to more than 700,000 Americans.

Let’s make something clear: This was never about public safety. Violent crime in D.C. was at a 30-year low when Trump originally sent the troops in.
This is about control, intimidating Black and Brown communities, and a wannabe dictator flexing his authoritarian power.
And it’s doing real harm to D.C. residents who are avoiding public spaces. Local businesses are losing customers, immigrant communities are afraid to leave their homes or go to work, and families are keeping kids home from school.
Meanwhile, Trump’s deployment has cost taxpayers more than $250 million. A fraction of that could’ve funded community safety programs, violence interruption, or mental health care.
This is how authoritarianism takes root, John. Trump has already proven he can deploy armed troops into American cities to punish dissent, push his political agenda, and intimidate the communities that dare to oppose him.
So what’s next? Troops at polling places? Military crackdowns in every city that votes blue? We cannot let this continue to escalate and become our new normal.
Pramila is fighting back by speaking out in Congress and organizing nonviolent resistance across the country — but she can’t do it without your grassroots support. And with Trump threatening to send troops to even more cities with Democratic leadership, now is not the time to back down.
If you’re ready to power the work Pramila is doing to build the resistance and defend our democracy, will you chip in $3 to power her campaign today?
