Thanks to our community and their unprecedented support, we’ve been able to add three new members to the Muslim Advocates team. We're thrilled to welcome our new Staff Attorneys Abbey Koenning-Rutherford and Collin Poirot, and Legal Fellow Nargis Aslami.

Meet Abbey – Staff Attorney

“I'm excited to join Muslim Advocates at the moment when our work sits at a true inflection point for civil rights and democracy. I'm eager to contribute to work that protects communities and strengthens the values we all share. “

Abbey is a 2023 graduate of Georgetown University Law Center who brings invaluable expertise and a powerful perspective that will strengthen our litigation and advocacy. Before coming to Muslim Advocates, Abbey served as an Aryeh Neier Fellow with Human Rights Watch and the ACLU’s Human Rights and Racial Justice Programs, where, among other contributions, she authored a groundbreaking report on environmental human rights abuses. She has also represented asylum seekers and conducted a human rights fact-finding investigation in Iraq with Georgetown’s Human Rights Institute.

Meet Collin – Senior Staff Attorney

"I am extremely grateful and excited to be joining Muslim Advocates during such a pivotal moment in the movement against political repression, intimidation, profiling, and other civil rights abuses. I'm honored to stand with our client communities as they fight back against the Trump administration in defense of their rights."

Collin is a 2018 graduate of Harvard Law School, who comes to Muslim Advocates after providing crucial legal defense to the U.S. movement for Palestinian liberation and an end to the genocide in Gaza. Collin brings extensive subject-matter expertise concerning immigration confinement and deportation, the intersections of the criminal legal system and the immigration enforcement system, and the weaponization of putative national security legal frameworks. Collin is a respected and trusted advocate in the field.

Meet Nargis – Legal Fellow

"I am so thrilled to join the MA team and grateful for the opportunity to directly support our communities at such a critical time in our country. I look forward to learning from the dedicated folks here at MA and being in coalition with defenders of civil rights and democracy."

Nargis is a 2024 graduate of Yale Law School who previously worked as the Douglas T. Kendall Fellow at the Constitutional Accountability Center. Since 2019, she’s served as the Co-President of Collective Power’s Board of Directors. Nargis will be embedded with our staff attorneys, helping to drive research, drafting, and collaboration with our partners in service of the communities to which Muslim Advocates is accountable. Nargis’s arrival marks the exciting relaunch of our Legal Fellowship program, which is designed to cultivate the next generation of attorneys committed to social justice.

The arrival of these principled advocates is an important part of the ongoing work at Muslim Advocates to extend and deepen the impact of our work at this critical juncture in our nation’s history—a process made possible through your generosity and partnership.
