From Elon Musk to the usual “mainstream” economists, we often hear that something must be done to increase the fertility rate. After all, we need more young taxpayers to keep paying all those Medicare bills. Some countries have even adopted “pro-family” government programs to increase fertility. But there’s a problem: it doesn’t seem to work. Today at mises.org, I take a look at problems with our common explanations for the world’s rapidly falling birth rates.

And speaking of things that don’t work (i.e., socialism), Bill Anderson today examines how socialism has always been based on the triumph of politics over economics.
