Toyota To Boost Hybrid Production in Kentucky with $204.4 Million Investment Creating 82 New Manufacturing Jobs in Georgetown
""""""""""""""Company has announced nearly $2.9 billion in new investments since start of Beshear administration""""""""""""""
*FRANKFORT, Ky. (Nov. 20, 2025) *– Today, Gov. Andy Beshear announced Toyota Motor Manufacturing Kentucky (TMMK) is once again expanding its presence in Georgetown with a $204.4 million investment that will create 82 new manufacturing jobs and boost production of hybrid vehicles. The project is part of a larger initiative, an overall $912 million investment creating 252 new jobs across the company’s plants in Kentucky, West Virginia, Mississippi, Missouri and Tennessee.
“I want to thank the leaders at Toyota for once again making a significant investment into the company’s largest global manufacturing facility in Georgetown,” said *Gov. Beshear*. “The Kentucky-Toyota partnership has driven decades of success, and I am proud to see our relationship grow even stronger.”
The Georgetown facility, Toyota’s largest manufacturing plant globally, will add 82 jobs and install a new machining line for 4-cylinder hybrid-compatible engines, which will begin production in 2027 at the powertrain facility that produces up to 700,000 units annually. TMMK currently employs nearly 10,000 team members and has seen investment exceeding $11 billion, including nearly $2.9 billion during this administration.
“Customers are embracing Toyota’s hybrid vehicles, and our U.S. manufacturing teams are gearing up to meet that growing demand,” said *Kevin Voelkel*, *senior vice president*, *manufacturing operations*. “Toyota’s philosophy is to build where we sell, and by adding more American jobs and investing across our U.S. footprint, we continue to stay true to that philosophy.”
This investment adds to the Georgetown operation’s history of groundbreaking technology and production. In 2006, TMMK was Toyota’s first plant in the United States to manufacture hybrid electric vehicles and later was selected to assemble fuel cell modules for use in hydrogen-powered, heavy-duty commercial trucks. The plant also plays a critical role in Toyota’s global electrification strategy, highlighted by the company’s $1.3 billion commitment [ [link removed] ] toward battery electric vehicle production at the facility.
Opened in 1988, more than 15 million vehicles have rolled off TMMK’s assembly lines, including the Camry, America’s best-selling sedan. Current production capacity is approximately 550,000 vehicles and 700,000 engines annually, with more than 400 suppliers nationwide – including over 100 in Kentucky.
Beyond its manufacturing investments, Toyota is also actively preparing the workforce of the future. The company recently launched Driving Possibilities, a $110 million initiative to support pre-K-12 education and beyond. The long-term program aims to close educational gaps through innovative, hands-on STEM learning while addressing the essential needs of students and families._ _Since making Kentucky home nearly four decades ago, more than $164 million in local donations continue to make sizeable impacts in the Bluegrass State.
*Scott County Judge/Executive Joe Pat Covington *mentioned the scope of the expansion: “Toyota’s continued investment in Scott County is another example of their commitment to meeting the needs of today’s market through innovation and sustainability. This new expansion reflects how Toyota is using many paths to advance hybrid technology and strengthen its leadership in the automotive industry. We are so excited and proud that this investment is happening right here in Scott County – supporting our regional economy, our workforce and the continued economic growth of the Commonwealth of Kentucky.”
*Georgetown Mayor Burney Jenkins* talked about the opportunities the project creates: “We are thrilled to hear of Toyota Motor Manufacturing Kentucky’s latest planned investment here in Georgetown. TMMK’s consistent and significant investments, such as this one, are a testament to the organization’s commitment to our local, regional and state level economies here in the commonwealth. Toyota’s focus on safe, sustainable and diversified production continues to push TMMK ahead of the pack in the automobile industry. As a result, our community benefits from job creation, competitive wages and an excellent community partner in education and workforce development.”
*Jack Conner, executive director of Scott County United Inc.*, showed excitement for the project: “Toyota Motor Manufacturing Kentucky continues to build upon the great foundation they constructed four decades ago. This is a testimony to Toyota’s commitment and reinvestment in the great Commonwealth of Kentucky, the Bluegrass region and the Georgetown/Scott County community. We look forward to this exciting endeavor and the positive impact it will have.”
Toyota’s investment and job creation build on the best five-year period for economic growth in state history.
Since the beginning of his administration, Gov. Beshear has announced more than 1,200 private-sector new-location and expansion projects totaling over $43 billion in announced investments, creating more than 63,600 jobs. This is the highest investment figure secured during the tenure of any governor in the commonwealth’s history and $20 billion more than the next highest total.
The robust job creation has been accompanied by rising wages across the commonwealth. Since 2022, the average incentivized hourly wage has topped $26 in three consecutive years for the first time.
Gov. Beshear has announced some of the largest economic development projects in state history, which have solidified Kentucky as the electric vehicle battery production capital of the United States: Ford Motor Co. and SK On’s transformative $5.8 billion, 5,000-job BlueOval SK Battery Park [ [link removed] ] in Hardin County; AESC [ [link removed] ]’s $2 billion, 2,000-job gigafactory project in Warren County; Toyota [ [link removed] ]’s $1.3 billion investment in Scott County; Ford Motor Co.
