MAGA is attacking my fellow servicemember Democrats for suggesting that members of our military should not obey illegal orders like torture.

This should not be controversial but MAGA is melting down because they don’t understand that military service requires taking and upholding an oath—not to any single individual, but to the Constitution. 

Unlawful orders that violate the Constitution violate that oath and they can and should be disobeyed.

As someone who put on the uniform, who still serves, and was appointed by Biden to the Pentagon, this is not an abstract concept for me. It is something that my fellow servicemembers must follow everyday. 

This is what Trump thinks about this:

When I served as a Special Counsel in the Department of Defense, I fought to make sure our military followed the law and the Constitution. I fought to keep illegal, torture-tainted evidence from Guantanamo out of our courts. 

I stand with the brave patriots who place the law and the constitution where it should be – above anyone.  

We need more leaders who will stand up for the rule of law and the Constitution. That’s what I will always do. 

MAGA cannot be allowed to bully or threaten us into submission. We are correct about the law and the Constitution. No one should be threatened with imprisonment or death for speaking out against unlawful actions.
