Last night, House Republicans voted to deny DC residents basic rights. They voted to impose chokeholds on Black and Brown citizens. They voted to eliminate the use of police body cameras, allowing assaults on DC residents to occur without documentation. They voted to reinstate a mandatory cash bail system—a system that targets those who can’t afford to pay bail and rewards those who can. The Republicans want to roll back our civil and human rights and return to the old Jim Crow era, and make an example out of our city. These two bills are just the beginning. Many more are in the pipeline.

I dropped everything to fight this assault on DC and our democracy. Together, we will build a coalition that will stand up for DC values and FIGHT.
