Hi John, TONIGHT at 11:59 p.m. ET is the deadline to submit comments opposing the Trump administration's proposed rule that would destroy the U.S. asylum system.

More than 1,000 supporters like you have already taken action through the National Immigrant Justice Center's click-to-comment action.

Take action now and send your comment stop the proposed rule and protect asylum!

The Trump administration's new regulations would pave the way to deport nearly all adults, children, and families back to the dangers, persecution, and torture they fled.

By law, the Trump administration has to accept comments from the public about the regulations before they go into effect. The commenting deadline is tonight and we need a flood of comments against this rule to protect asylum seekers fleeing persecution.

This proposed rule is a clear attempt by the administration to end asylum entirely and create insurmountable barriers for all asylum seekers. Here are some examples of the irreparable harm these new rules would cause:

  • Sexual assault and domestic violence survivors, LGBTQI individuals seeking protection based on gender identity or sexual orientation, and survivors of gang violence will have a much more difficult road to winning asylum.

  • Asylum seekers would be prevented from introducing evidence regarding dangerous gender norms in their native country that resulted in their persecution.

  • The government won’t grant asylum if asylum seekers spent more than two weeks in any country or transited through another country while traveling to the United States.

  • The government would fast-track deportation for asylum seekers and drastically raise the burden they face to prove their claims.

  • Asylum applicants (who don’t have the right to an attorney) will have a higher burden to meet and if they fail to articulate their fears properly, they may not get a hearing before a judge or may be denied protection.

Asylum is a human right and we must fight back to ensure the United States is a haven for the persecuted.

Send your comment now before tonight's 11:59 p.m. ET deadline to protect asylum seekers!

Thank you for taking action to stand up human rights and protect asylum seekers.
