Friend — In the last month since the so-called ceasefire was brokered in Gaza, settler violence against Palestinians in the West Bank has spiraled out of control.

Gangs of Israeli settlers have been allowed to act with impunity, beating up Palestinians, looting and destroying their homes and farmland, and even destroying a sacred mosque.

And it’s not just these extremist gangs — the Israeli government has done its part to accelerate the illegal annexation of Palestinian land in the West Bank.

The Washington Post writes: “While approving housing and other infrastructure projects for Israeli settlements at a record rate, the government has also increased demolition of Palestinian property while deprioritizing investigations into attacks on Palestinians,”

This is a story that has been playing out for years, but the Gaza genocide has completely emboldened Israeli settlers and has allowed them to escalate their attacks. Israel was able to act recklessly violent and break international law left and right in Gaza — why not do the same in the West Bank?

We have to remember that all of this violence and terrorizing of Palestinians is in service of the ultimate goal of annexing all of the West Bank into Israeli territory. Little by little, village by village, the Israeli settler movement and the Israeli government that supports them seek to push Palestinians off their land.

Now it’s up to the international community, and especially the United States — which provides Israel with weapons and aid despite its continued flouting of international law — to speak out and put pressure on Israel to finally crack down on these violent gangs and halt the annexation of the West Bank.
