John,
This time of year, I’m always reminded of the power and importance of coming together to support one another.
I’m especially thinking of the many families affected by the recent government shutdown. Between missed paychecks, the rising cost of groceries, and cuts to SNAP benefits, it has been more difficult for some households to put a Thanksgiving meal on the table. But no one should have to choose between paying a bill and sharing a holiday with the people they love.
So as the holiday season approaches, there has never been a more meaningful time to give to a food bank in your community. The added pressures of this season can weigh heavily on families already stretching every dollar, and even a small act of generosity can bring tremendous relief and hope to someone in need.
For those in North Carolina, you can find ways to support local food pantries here: https://foodbankcenc.org/
If you’re outside of North Carolina, you can locate your nearest food bank by entering your ZIP code here: Feeding America.
And if a financial donation isn’t possible right now, consider donating your time. Even a few hours of volunteering can make a world of difference for families who rely on these services.
Our strength as a community is measured by how we show up for one another. Thank you for taking the time to read this, and for considering a contribution, whether it’s time, resources, or support, in whatever way you’re able.
With gratitude,
Valerie Foushee
