John,
Each year on Transgender Day of Remembrance, we pause to remember, honor, and mourn the transgender people whose lives were taken by violence. According to a new report compiled by our partners at Advocates for Trans Equality, at least 58 transgender and gender-nonconforming individuals were lost in 2025. We know this number is tragically underreported - many more lives may never be named, counted, or recognized.
Of the recorded deaths this year, a devastating majority were transgender women of color, once again underscoring the disproportionate violence faced by Black and Brown trans communities.
Each of these souls was robbed of their right to exist. In a world that still too often targets and marginalizes transgender people, it is our duty to remember those taken — and to do everything in our power to ensure no more lives are claimed by anti-trans violence.
Thank you,
LGBTQ+ Victory Institute
