Dear PAVe Supporters, We have some exciting and unexpected news. And we owe you a big thank you. On Monday July 13th, flavored e-cigarette brand Puff Bar announced on its website that it has immediately “ceased” all sales in the U.S. “until further notice." Though we remain wary (Puff Bar has made similar claims before though not on its official site), we believe this is a potentially a win for kids’ public health. And a rallying cry for all the important work that lies ahead of us. As we wrote to FDA in our May 29th letter, Puff Bar—the teen-favorite disposable vape dubbed the new JUUL—may be among the most egregious, but it is just one of many e-cigarette companies that continue targeting our kids. We are grateful that so many of you helped sound the alarm about Puff Bar and joined our letter-writing campaign calling for FDA to take immediate action against Puff Bar for openly violating its regulations. While we don’t know exactly what triggered Monday's move, we do know that every time parents like us raise our voices about the dangers of youth vaping we can have an impact, whether it’s sending an email, making a phone call, or educating others in our own communities. In September, FDA begins to review applications from e-cigarette companies that want to “legalize” their products that have been allowed to remain on the market, unregulated, for years. FDA must not allow flavored products with extremely high levels of nicotine to be authorized and must offer transparency for the entire process. We will keep you informed as we prepare our next call to action. Thank you again for partnering with us in the ongoing fight to protect our kids from the predatory behavior of Big Tobacco. Onward! Thank you, The PAVe Team |
