Dear John,

After decades of protecting the Boundary Waters, I’ve seen threats that felt impossible. I’ve stood against snowmobilers, loggers, and powerful interests that didn’t share our vision of a wild, protected Wilderness.

I grew up in Ely, where my father, Bill Rom, founded Canoe Country Outfitters. He was part of the early efforts to establish the Wilderness Act, and I spent my childhood watching him and other local champions fight for this place. That commitment to safeguard Canoe Country has been instilled in me my entire life.

But time and time again, supporters like you have shown what’s possible. You’ve turned what felt impossible into real protection for this special place.

Right now, the administration is working to undo the 20-year mining ban and hand over our public lands to a foreign mining company. But that mining ban still stands because Wilderness defenders like you step up when it matters most.

Today is Give to the Max Day, and I've already made my gift. Have you?
