Today is our second Wednesday disability policy call-in on COVID-19 relief and ending police violence! You’ve been doing a great job at applying pressure to your Senators and letting them know how important it is that all people with disabilities can live safely in the community. Now, we need to keep the momentum going by continuing to call.
This month will mark the 30th anniversary of the passage of the Americans with Disabilities Act, a landmark civil rights bill for people with disabilities. Disability rights have come a long way, but the goals of the ADA are still not fully realized today. Disabled people of color face unconscionable rates of police violence, and many people with disabilities are currently trapped in institutions, where COVID outbreaks are common. This July, let’s honor the disabled advocates who brought us the ADA by speaking out for the rights of people with disabilities to live in our communities, free of violence. Join us on Wednesdays — starting THIS WEEK — for weekly call-ins on COVID-19 relief and police violence.
