Earlier today, I walked out of a sham Senate hearing on immigration.

Republicans refuse to have a serious conversation about our immigration system — or acknowledge the devastation and fear being caused by Trump’s mass deportation agenda — and I refuse to join in on their propaganda.

Please let me explain.

First, it’s important to say that violence against any law enforcement officer is never acceptable under any circumstance. We all agree there. Where we differ is that instead of admitting that this administration is targeting people because of how they look, speak or where they work, or the fact that some Americans are being detained and arrested, many with unwarranted force, Senate Republicans are turning a blind eye.

Look no further than the title of today’s hearing: “ICE Under Fire: The Radical Left’s Crusade Against Immigration Enforcement.”

That doesn’t set the stage for a serious conversation. This is merely an exercise in MAGA political theater.

You won’t hear from them about how over 70% of those currently detained by ICE have no criminal record.

You won’t hear from them about the 170 American citizens caught up in their raids — even after Secretary Noem lies and claims that no Americans have been detained.

And you won’t hear from them about how masked agents have felt so empowered by this administration that even a Reagan-appointed federal judge said: “In all our history, we have never tolerated an armed, masked secret police... carrying on in this fashion.”

Every day, we witness brutality and misuse of force by this administration. That’s not just morally wrong — it’s an attack on our nation’s fundamental right to due process. Americans are fed up, and so am I.

That’s why I am fighting so hard to stand up for the rule of law amidst the GOP’s disinformation campaign. Earlier this summer I introduced legislation to ban ICE and DHS agenda from wearing masks to hide their identity, and require them to publicly display their agency and name or badge number.

I will continue fighting for public safety, transparency, and your civil rights. Thank you for staying in this fight for me.
