Donald Trump finally said it loud and clear: He will not extend the tax credits that keep the Affordable Care Act affordable.

This was the bargaining chip eight Senate Democrats agreed to when they signed on to the Republicans’ catastrophic budget. They reopened the government on the promise of a VOTE to extend ACA tax credits for millions of Americans who rely on them.

And now Donald Trump is saying plainly what many of us already knew: he has no intention of protecting your health care.

He would rather pour money into a gold ballroom and hand out tax breaks to his billionaire friends than help families afford lifesaving health care.

And Democratic leadership and the eight Democrats who voted to reopen the government at the expense of your health care are complicit in allowing him to do it.

Here’s what that means: Health care premiums will go up an average of 78% for Illinoisans who get care through the marketplace. Families will be forced to choose between paying for coverage and putting food on the table.

If it wasn’t obvious already, it is now. This vote was a surrender. And now we Americans will face the consequences of our leaders enabling Trump's cruelty.

And it is exactly why “business as usual” in Washington is failing the American people.

I am running for the U.S. Senate to fight back — against Trump, against Republicans, and yes, against Democrats who choose convenience over courage.

I will not bow down when working people need a fighter. I will not allow Democratic leadership to sacrifice Illinois families for political comfort. And I will never put Republican interests before the people who elected me.

But my opponents can’t say the same — and the special interests backing them know it. They continue to stand by the leadership that let this happen.

We have less than four months until Primary Day, and the stakes could not be higher. If you want a Senator who will stand up to Trump and refuse to fold when it matters most, then I need you with me today.
