For the planet, for all of us - horse image

It's cold,
really, really cold. To preserve genetic samples, the Frozen
Zoo®
needs to be. Half
a century ago,
what began as a bold vision has
grown into the
world's most extensive wildlife biodiversity bank. Today,
this groundbreaking
repository safeguards more than 11,500 living
individual samples.

As we look ahead to
the next 50 years, we're helping grow biobanking
capacity across the
globe. To start, we launched pilot sites in four
biodiversity hotspots:
Kenya,
Vietnam,
Hawai'i,
and Peru.
Each unique
site strengthens this
global network with the collective goal that every
community, country,
and culture can protect their native wildlife for
generations to come.

We're making
incredible progress, but we can't do it alone. At the IUCN
World Conservation
Congress, we announced our initiative to biobank
every endangered
species by 2075 and invited conservation champions
worldwide to join
us. Together we can create a brighter
future for
people, wildlife, and
the planet we all share.

BRANCHING OUT

New relationships can
be exciting, especially when you're a Sumatran
orangutan. These
remarkable apes develop connections with each other
through both big and
small interactions. Meet Labu, the adult orangutan
that's
settling into the orangutan family at the Zoo.

HOPE ON THE RANGE

This summer, an
injured pronghorn fawn was found wandering alone in the
New Mexican desert,
desperately in need of help. Our experts and
partners sprang into
action once they got word of his predicament.
Follow his tracks to
learn more about
his rescue,
recovery, and how your
support is helping
his species and other wildlife through our
Southwest
Conservation
Hub.

RETURNING THE CALL

Earlier this month, we
celebrated One Health Day, recognizing that the
health of people,
wildlife, and the planet are inextricably connected.
In Hawai'i, this
interconnectedness is a way of life. Discover how
collaborative,
community-led conservation is securing hope for
'alal?
and the dynamic
island forests they rely on to thrive.
