Friend — Almost every day, we see a new viral video of ICE agents threatening people, hurting people, and terrorizing communities.
We’ve seen ICE pepper-spray babies, disappear US citizens, slam distraught mothers and fathers to the ground, rough up elderly folks, ram people in traffic, smash windows, point loaded guns at bystanders, handcuff little kids, shoot people in the head with rubber bullets, and even shoot to kill.
And they do it all wearing masks, with the full authority of the federal government, and absolutely no accountability or repercussions for their violations of law, civil rights, and human rights.
ICE is out of control and should be abolished.
Donald Trump has turned immigration enforcement into the kind of secret police we see in other far-right authoritarian societies. The Republican Party’s constant dehumanizing rhetoric — along with the MAGA Supreme Court’s ruling, which legalized racial profiling — has opened the floodgates of hatred and allowed for the violence we are seeing in our cities today.
And it should not be lost on us that as the Trump administration fires federal workers en masse and defunds critical federal programs, ICE now has more funding than most militaries in other countries. Your healthcare and food assistance, on the other hand, are on the chopping block.
That’s because mass deportation is this administration’s number one priority, and they don’t care how many people get hurt, terrorized, or even killed in the process. They don’t care about civil rights, civil liberties, or the very idea of freedom from tyranny.
ICE is out of control and should be abolished.
America has been a country of immigrants for hundreds of years, even before its founding. I’m one of them. ICE was created in 2003, just two decades ago. We can build a smart, humane, and organized immigration system without a group of violent thugs behind it.
