ASHLAND, Wis.* – The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) will hold an informational public meeting at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 11, 2025, to discuss progress toward the objectives outlined in the Lake Superior Fisheries Management Plan [ [link removed] ] at its midpoint.

The goal of this meeting is to provide the public with a summary of the work that has been accomplished thus far towards each of the five goals laid out in the Lake Superior Fisheries Management Plan. This meeting will also provide an opportunity for stakeholders to help identify and plan future work to meet the plan's goals and objectives.

The Lake Superior Fisheries Management Plan was collaboratively developed from 2017 to 2020 by the DNR and a stakeholder work group to guide management of sport and commercial fisheries in Wisconsin's Lake Superior waters for 10 years (2020-2029).

The plan presents an ambitious agenda of work for the Lake Superior Fisheries Team to fulfill the plan's vision: a diverse fishery and ecosystem that balances the ecological, cultural, social and economic needs of Wisconsin's Lake Superior basin region.

"Through a combination of core monitoring and surveys, extra projects and diverse collaborations, DNR staff have been able to complete work under every goal and almost every objective within the plan. This meeting is an opportunity to highlight these accomplishments," said Karson Cisneros, DNR Great Lakes Specialist. "The goals and objectives established in the plan will continue to guide the management of Wisconsin's Lake Superior fisheries; additional input at this midpoint will help continue our progress," said Cisneros.

The meeting will begin with a brief presentation on the progress made toward each of the five main goals, followed by time for questions or comments related to priorities for the remainder of the 10-year period (2026-2029) or any other Lake Superior fisheries topic.
