TPM: Inside the GOP’s Assault on Youth Voting Rights [[link removed]]
John, we'll be blunt: The lies about a “ stolen ” 2020 election are still being used to justify “ election integrity ” efforts that are stripping Americans, particularly certain vulnerable populations, of their fundamental democratic rights.
We've seen this in the dismantling of the Voting Rights Act (VRA), it is part of the ongoing hyper-partisan redistricting efforts across the country, but the least visible front is the widespread assault on youth voting rights.
New “ voter integrity ” laws have hit college-age voters particularly hard across the country, but especially in states like North Carolina, Indiana, and Ohio. Cleta Mitchell, a lawyer, fundraiser, and Trump ally, has gone state to state, spreading the lies about the 2020 presidential election and calling for banning voting on college campuses, rolling back same-day voter registration, and ending the practice in some states of automatically mailing ballots to registered voters.
These are all attacks on youth voting. It's clear that opponents of voting rights see suppressing the youth vote as a key pillar in their attempts to hold onto power in perpetuity.
We need to spread the word and protect our fundamental right to vote regardless of age, but the corporate media isn't paying attention. Will you pitch in with $25 or whatever you can today to help us spread the word and fight back against these suppressive laws? >> [[link removed]]

Youth voting rights were part of the post-WWII expansion of voter inclusion and were realized through the 1971 passage of the 26th Amendment, which lowered the voting age from 21 to 18 and banned discrimination based on age in ballot access.
Even President Richard Nixon declared that “ America’s new voters, America’s young generation ” would bring “ moral courage ” and “ a spirit of high idealism ” to the country. It seems vengeful partisans in his party would rather win elections than uphold the ideals of our democracy.
These new state laws restrict basic election modernization tools that a new generation of voters expects, such as online voter registration or curing — essentially correcting minor errors — on vote-by-mail ballots. These bills ban polling places on college campuses and prevent voters from using their student I.D. — with their picture on it — as proof of identity. And some states are even considering physical residency time requirements, which would suppress college students who live both at school and at home with their parents.
Opponents of voting rights aren't going to stop their work to suppress their way to victory until we make them stop. Support our efforts to protect our fundamental right to vote with $25 or whatever you can today >> [[link removed]]

Integrity First Voter Action Project is dedicated to expanding ballot access and increasing voter participation across the country.
Since the Supreme Court gutted key provisions in the Voting Rights Act, extreme politicians have taken advantage to pass harsh laws that restrict access to the ballot box. These restrictions particularly affect disadvantaged communities and people of color. It’s our goal to bring awareness to these laws wherever they may crop up and organize voters to take action to ensure the right to vote is available to everyone in their states and communities.
