Tonight, I accepted the Democratic nomination for United States Senate in Maine.

That means Senator Collins is our official Republican opponent — the race is on.

I’ll be honest, the next few months will not be easy. Susan Collins is a 24-year incumbent with the entire Republican Party establishment behind her. She’s stood with Donald Trump and Mitch McConnell when they needed her most, including as a critical vote to pass a massive corporate tax giveaway, and to confirm Brett Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court. Outside interests will spend nearly unlimited amounts of money to support her.

But if we are in this together, we are going to win. And the word together is key, because I cannot do this alone. So I am asking:

Can I count on you to make your first online donation to our campaign now? I’m rejecting corporate PAC money, so we’re trying to generate as many individual donations as we can tonight.

Like I said, this won’t be easy. Our race is critical if Democrats are going to take back the Senate, so Mitch McConnell and conservative special interest groups are already spending millions of dollars to save Collins’ campaign.

But because of supporters like you John, we are in a really strong position to defeat them in November and bring Democrats one step closer to the Senate majority — as long as we keep pushing.

John, I am so proud of all we’ve accomplished since we launched this campaign last year. We’ve held Suppers with Sara, our campaign’s version of a town hall, in 19 cities and towns across Maine. We have organizers reaching Mainers in every single county, and I’ve met with thousands of voters in their own communities. And along the way, we proved that a campaign funded by the grassroots and NOT corporate PAC money can stay competitive in this race.

We've come a long way since we launched last year — but we still have a long way to go until this race is ours.
