Hi John,
I’m Marion, and I was a participant at Immigrants Rising’s first-ever Home Is Here Opportunity Program ([link removed]) and mental health programs ([link removed]) .
As a fellow, I built relationships with my local community, from students to day laborers, to teach them about entrepreneurship as a viable way to make money. This was when DHS was forming a partnership with the IRS, a time when the President tried to weaponize our own contributions against us. And in the midst of uncertainty, the program and our community presentations were a hub for hope and levity.
At a workshop I facilitated
I learned new skills in research, presentation, and outreach that were both transformative for my community and my life. Because I was able to apply those skills with support from compassionate people who know what it’s like to be in my shoes, and was given a living stipend & resources to survive, I also rediscovered my voice, creativity, and drive to persevere toward my dreams, even with my immigration status. Now, I am continuing my studies while co-owning an art store, Building Press Co. ([link removed])

In a time when undocumented immigrants’ safety and livelihoods are under attack, it’s even more important to believe that we have what it takes to learn, grow, and innovate, for our future and for our survival. Being undocumented may bring its own hurdles, but it also makes us more resourceful, nuanced, and insightful.
My experience as part of Immigrants Rising has been nothing short of transformative, and I know that there are many more like myself whose possibilities can open if they can access the right support. Can I count on your support for Immigrants Rising’s mission to provide critical mental health care, paid fellowship opportunities, and community support for undocumented people? ([link removed])
Making it through together,
Marion
