*Governor Ferguson appoints Mary Crandall to Skagit County Superior Court*

"Crandall joins the Skagit County bench after a decade of criminal law experience and seven years as a judicial officer "

Crandall

*OLYMPIA *– Today Governor Bob Ferguson announced the appointment of current Skagit County Superior Court Commissioner Mary Crandall to the position of Skagit County Superior Court Judge. Crandall’s appointment, effective Dec. 31, fills the position that Judge Thomas Verge’s resignation will vacate.

Crandall is a career public servant with more than 17 years of legal experience as a superior court commissioner, judge "pro tempore," criminal prosecutor and deputy district attorney. She has served four years in her current role as Skagit County Superior Court Commissioner in Mount Vernon, where she presides over matters such as civil protection orders, probate, guardianship, at-risk youth and juvenile offender calendars. She serves on several statewide judicial committees, including family and juvenile law, ethics and guardianship and probate.

“Mary Crandall’s legal expertise, commitment to public service and deep connection to Skagit County will make her an exceptional Superior Court judge,” Governor Ferguson said.

“As a proud Skagitonian, it is a true honor to serve Skagit County as Superior Court Judge,” Crandall said. “I am deeply humbled and grateful to Governor Ferguson for entrusting me with this responsibility.”

Before joining the Skagit County Superior Court as a commissioner, Crandall regularly served as a "pro tem "judge in San Juan County District Court for two years while also working as a prosecutor in Skagit County. In her legal practice, Crandall investigated and prosecuted a variety of criminal cases, including murder and gang-related weapons offenses, working closely with victims and witnesses. In her roles in therapeutic courts, she worked alongside judges, treatment providers, defense attorneys and counselors to serve drug, mental health and community court participants.

Earlier in her career, Crandall spent five years in Portland at the Multnomah County District Attorney’s Office where she facilitated coordination between law enforcement, county commissioners and city leaders. Prior to that, she clerked for Lane County Circuit Court Judge M.K. Merten in Eugene, Oregon.

Outside the courtroom, Crandall is a member of the Sedro-Woolley Rotary Club, where she served as a board member for two years. She also served on the board of trustees and as board president at Hospice of the Northwest Foundation. Raised in Skagit County, Crandall returned home to continue her legal career there after her stint in Oregon.

In her spare time, Crandall enjoys spending time outdoors with her husband.

Crandall earned her bachelor’s degree from the University of Washington and her law degree from the University of Oregon.
