Hi Friend,
When Senator Joni Ernst first ran for U.S. Senate in 2014, she released a ground-breaking, game-changing ad, in which she described how she “grew up castrating hogs on an Iowa farm,” and promised to bring these skills to Washington to cut pork and “make ’em squeal.”

This was the first of many splashes Sen. Ernst made on the public stage that makes her so unique, but also so relatable. Sen. Ernst went from working hard on a farm to becoming the first female elected to federal office in Iowa to serving as the first combat veteran in the Senate.

This trajectory, this journey, is what makes her new book, Daughter of the Heartland: My Ode to the Country that Raised Me ([link removed]) , such a fascinating read. That’s why we chose it for our July #IWFReads Book Club.
