1. Hurricane Melissa Response
After Hurricane Melissa – the strongest storm on record to hit Jamaica – tore through the Caribbean, Americares was one of the first aid organizations on the ground. With winds reaching 185 mph and catastrophic flooding, the storm devastated infrastructure, displaced over 30,000 people and damaged dozens of health care facilities.
Americares is delivering emergency medicine and supplies to survivors in the hardest-hit areas. We’ve also deployed a 16-person emergency medical team, including physicians, nurses and mental health professionals, to provide free health care and mental health to support survivors in Chester Castle, Jamaica.
