Dear Friend,
After taking a short newsletter break, my office resumes our weekly communications with a message of gratitude to Virginia: thank you for the immense honor of serving as our Commonwealth’s next Lieutenant Governor. Our newsletter also shares select recent community engagements. Thank you for reading and staying informed.
Thank you, Virginia
Two weeks ago today, after campaigning for twenty months across our Commonwealth – through a challenging and intense Democratic Primary and General Election – I am truly honored to be elected as Virginia’s 43rd Lieutenant Governor. I share some excerpts from my remarks on Election Night:
Tonight, Virginia, we have pointed our compass in a direction that guides us to the future while also building on the roots of our collective embrace of decency, dignity, and dedication.
Virginia has chosen leadership that lifts people up instead of tearing them down. Together, we have proven that — in Virginia — a child’s name, a family’s personal struggles, and a community’s identity are not barriers to belonging.
I am incredibly honored and humbled to stand before you as Virginia’s Lieutenant Governor–Elect.
This moment of success is not mine alone. It belongs to every Virginian who believes that our politics must be more hopeful, more inclusive, and more focused on solving problems instead of scoring points on the backs of others’ pain…
Let us not forget, however, that the challenges we endure today are not entirely new, and they can be navigated. We have been grappling with profound questions of our national identity, our nation’s history and its complex legacies for centuries. This nation has not merely endured, but it has risen from every crisis through introspection, resolution, and new determination, as we continue our necessary work towards a more just, more equal, and a more compassionate America.
Tonight, we have taken another step forward. Today’s elections and the voices of hundreds of thousands of voters tell us we are defining a new path.
We are investing in the future and building a Commonwealth in which every child receives a high quality education and is able to build a life and a career, right here in Virginia.
We are charting a path forward as we ensure access to affordable childcare, health care and housing.
We will define our progress as successful when we translate that moral call to take care of the elderly, the vulnerable, and those who are hungry or without shelter into the actions of a government that serves the people it represents…
Thank you, Virginia, for the immense honor bestowed upon me to serve as your next Lieutenant Governor!

On Monday, November 10, I provided the keynote for The Commonwealth Institute’s Annual Policy Summit in Richmond. At a time when we face numerous challenges as a Commonwealth, convenings such as these provide vital space to translate bold ideas into legislation that improves the lives of communities across Virginia.

On Tuesday, I attended the 69th Annual Commonwealth’s Veterans Day Ceremony at the Virginia War Memorial honoring those who have served our country domestically and abroad. Virginia is home to more than 670,000 veterans, and we must continue to ensure that veterans and their families receive the resources they need to thrive.

On Thursday, I traveled to Washington, DC, to meet with my counterparts in the Democratic Lieutenant Governor’s Association. We are collectively working on systemic responses to the crises facing our individual states and communities because of Trump’s policies gutting health care, politicizing education, abusing our judiciary, and creating economic uncertainty that hurts working families.

On Friday, I attended the 12th Annual Executive Briefing on the Economics of Early Childhood, co-sponsored by the Virginia Chamber and the Virginia Early Childhood Foundation. Accessibility and affordability of childcare continue to be top-of-mind issues for Virginia’s families, which we will work to address during the 2026 General Assembly session.

On Sunday, I joined members of the CD-04 Democrats for our post-election celebration. Volunteers with our Democratic Committees ushered in historic victories up and down the ballot, which have been recognized around the nation and across the world as a sign of hope against the chaos of the Trump administration.
