AG Nessel Announces Appointment of Eaton County Public Administrator

*LANSING* – Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel has announced the recent appointment of Kenneth L. O’Deen as Eaton County Public Administrator.

“Ken has long been a dedicated member of the Eaton County community, and I am sure he will bring that same commitment to his role as Eaton County Public Administrator,” Nessel said. “His experience and knowledge will serve residents well.”

County public administrators have powers and duties primarily related to intestate decedent estates where there are apparently no known heirs, as well as managing the determination, collection, liquidation, and/or distribution of any assets in the estate. Attorneys that serve in this capacity often have private practice responsibilities that are separate and unrelated to their appointment as county public administrator.

“I look forward to working with County Public Administrator O’Deen,” said State Public Administrator Randi M. Merchant. “I have every confidence that Ken will serve as an outstanding addition to the roster of talented and passionate attorneys that serve as county public administrators across the state.”

O’Deen, a U.S. Air Force veteran, received his bachelor's degree from Indiana University Northwest and his law degree from Thomas M. Cooley School of Law. He has practiced law in Eaton County for more than 25 years. In addition to his private practice work, O’Deen served as Eaton County Public Guardian from 2006-2020, is a past president of the Eaton County Bar Association, previously served on the Board of Directors for Legal Services of South Central Michigan, and currently supports the Charlotte Jaycees.

O’Deen was sworn in on November 5, 2025.
