For one week only, from midday Tuesday 2 December to midday Tuesday 9 December, during The Big Give Christmas Challenge, donations to Full Fact will be doubled.

Earlier this year, Google ended its support for Full Fact. The company has been one of our biggest funders over the past three years, helping us build some of the best AI tools for fact checking in the world. But things have now changed abruptly, with over £1m in Google funding received last year either not renewed, or cut altogether! 

Google’s decision is linked to a dangerous new narrative, fuelled by the US administration’s stance, that attacks fact checking and equates it with censorship.

Fact checking has never seen a threat like this. As we urgently diversify our income, we’re asking supporters to have their donation doubled this December, and help keep Full Fact impartial, independent, and secure.

Donations made during The Big Give will be matched by our generous pledgers and The Big Give’s champion funders, meaning your gift will have twice the impact in the ongoing fight against misinformation.

What your doubled donation will do:

• Keep Full Fact impartial, independent, and secure in the face of a dangerous negative narrative on fact checking, and the loss of Google funding.

• Fact check false and misleading claims at a time when fact checking itself is increasingly under attack. 

• Advocate for a better information environment.

• Continue to report on whether the UK Government is keeping its manifesto pledges.

Verifiable facts matter and the big internet companies have responsibilities when it comes to curtailing the spread of misinformation. Full Fact add to debate, we don’t restrict it. We promote more speech, not less.
