John, Last week, I joined my colleagues for a bipartisan forum in Norfolk. What should’ve been a discussion about avoiding a government shutdown quickly turned to another fight — redistricting. Some Democrats argued that because Republican-led states like Texas and North Carolina changed their maps, Virginia should “respond in kind.” But as I said then: Two wrongs don’t make a right.
Virginia’s Constitution is different. Our voters are different. And our values are different.
Two-thirds of Virginians — Democrats, Republicans, and independents — voted in 2020 for a nonpartisan redistricting commission to take politics out of this process. That’s a promise we should honor, not abandon.

I know what’s at stake. If this amendment passes, the General Assembly could redraw districts before 2026 — not for fairness, but for political advantage. That would silence thousands of Virginians who simply want their vote to matter.
This fight isn’t about party lines. It’s about integrity — about keeping the word we gave to voters.
If you agree that Virginia should do what’s right for Virginia, not what’s convenient for Washington, I’m asking for your support today.
