Museums Change Lives

What We Learned from Our Social Impact Study

________________________________________________________________________

Museums don't just preserve history; they transform how we see the world.

This past spring and summer, we invited local families to help us answer a question: what happens when you make the museum part of your life?

Over several months, participants visited the museum with friends and family, and then shared how their experiences impacted them.

The results shared the impacts of museums on people's daily lives.

*Sparking Curiosity*

Visiting the museum increased participants' curiosity about how things work. They started asking "what if" questions, experimenting with new ideas, and challenging the status quo.

One participant said, ""It gives us a place to learn about our state and community, and they have great events where we can have fun and learn even more.""

*Lasting Connections*

Museums bring people together. After visiting our museum, visitors noted that they learned new things from friends or family, found it easier to develop social relationships, and their ability to see things from others' perspectives was improved.

""The family days have made it easier to put myself out there and meet mom friends who also like to go to the museum!" "another participant shared.

*Why this Matters*

We're proud to contribute to a growing understanding of the roles museums play in building stronger communities.

The data tells us that museums are more than buildings full of artifacts. They're spaces where curiosity awakens, families connect, and communities grow stronger.

*What's Next?*

We're using these insights to shape future programs, improve visitor experiences, and deepen our impact on Cheyenne and Wyoming.

Want to be part of the story? Visit us, and bring friends or family, and see what can change for you.

"This project was led by the American Alliance of Museums and funded by the Institute of Museum and Library Services."
