Science shouldn't be political -- but during this administration, we've seen time and time again that if the science doesn't say what President Trump wants, we're in trouble.

That's what the Inspector General of the Department of Commerce found recently when she investigated what happened after President Trump claimed Hurricane Dorian was headed to Alabama. When the Alabama National Weather Service pushed back to prove the hurricane WAS NOT heading to Alabama, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) put out an unsigned statement contradicting those forecasters.

The Inspector General investigation showed heavy pressure on NOAA to support President Trump -- a move that was "contrary to the apolitical mission" of NOAA. It is clear that Department of Commerce and NOAA leadership prioritized politics over science and the safety of Americans.

This administration is not interested in science or real leadership -- and will only change if we speak up: If you agree that science shouldn't be politicized, add your name next to mine today.

The work that NOAA does is absolutely critical to protecting American lives -- and if they face political pressure when hurricanes and extreme weather are bearing down on our coastlines, that puts people in real danger.

NOAA is also crucial to creating and supporting jobs in our ocean economy, and scientists must know that their leaders are letting science lead the way. If they don't feel supported and protected, how can they protect our coastal communities and the environment?
