Does the stork have competition? Assisted reproductive technology (ART) is =

- In 2020, 79,942 babies were born using ART, including IVF. In 2022, that =
number rose to 98,289 =E2=80=94 a 23% jump in just two years. In 2022, one =
in every 37 babies nationwide was conceived using IVF or another assisted r=
eproductive technology.
- IVF success depends on a range of factors, including age. Women younger t=
han 35 who underwent successful egg retrieval delivered live infants 49.7% =
of the time, compared to 7.7% for women older than 40.=E2=80=AF=E2=80=AF=C2=

tility, including low sperm count or issues with sperm function. It was the=
second-most common reason for perusing reproductive procedures.
- In 2022, IVF was most common in Washington, DC (7.3%). Massachusetts had =
the highest state rate (6.2%). Less than 1% of infants born in Alabama (0.8=
