Chuck Schumer

Friend,

Sara Gideon's primary is today -- and tomorrow, she'll head to the general election to take on Susan Collins.

And right now, there's so much to take on with Senator Collins. But let's start with her support of voting for Brett Kavanaugh to be a Supreme Court Justice, and how she rationalized it to Americans and Mainers alike.

Before we dive in, know that this election could be the deciding factor in flipping the Senate, and that's why we set an aggressive mid-month goal of raising $5,000 for Sara Gideon before Friday's deadline. Will you donate $5 or more to support Sara Gideon right now?

Let's start with LGBTQ+ rights: Senator Collins is one of the lead sponsors of The Equality Act, which would add sexual orientation and gender identity to other protected classes in federal law. She praised the Supreme Court's decision to affirm that federal anti-discrimination laws protect gay and transgender employees -- but ignored the fact that Brett Kavanaugh dissented. Susan Collins says she supports the LGBTQ+ community, but clearly doesn't mind supporting judges who don't.

Next, abortion. In her 44-minute floor speech in the Senate about why she voted to support appointing Brett Kavanaugh to a lifetime appointment to the Supreme Court, she said she felt sure that he'd respect reproductive freedoms as "established law." But when the Supreme Court ruled on whether doctors would need admitting privileges at nearby hospitals to perform abortions -- a clear attack on reproductive freedom and access -- Brett Kavanaugh sided with the court's conservatives.

That was followed by a decision by the Court to allow employers not to cover birth control in employer-provided health care plans on religious or moral grounds. Susan Collins says she supports reproductive freedom, but clearly doesn't mind supporting judges who don't.

When she was asked if she regretted the decision to support Brett Kavanaugh, Senator Collins answered decisively: "I do not regret my vote in the least."

This is why we have to unseat Susan Collins and elect Sara Gideon. Senator Collins claims one thing, and will vote to undermine it every single time. Mainers and Americans need senators who will support them -- that's why we need to raise $5,000 for Sara Gideon by Friday's mid-month deadline.

Donate $5 or more right now to unseat Susan Collins and elect Sara Gideon.

Sincerely,

Chuck Schumer
