You know, I’ve been in politics long enough to see what real leadership looks like — and what it doesn’t.

After this record-breaking government shutdown, eight Senate Democrats sided with Donald Trump and his Republican allies to strike a deal that puts working families on the losing end again.

That’s not leadership. That’s giving in.

A promise to make health care more expensive for the middle class — and out of reach for working people who need it most.

It’s time for Democrats to stand tall for affordable health care and for families who are doing everything right but still struggling to make ends meet, to afford their prescriptions, or see a doctor when they need one.

That’s why I’m proud to stand with my friend and partner in governance, Juliana Stratton, in her campaign for U.S. Senate.

Together, Juliana and I have led the fight to make health care more affordable here in Illinois — from expanding access to mental health care to relieving millions in medical debt for families in need. And Juliana has made it clear: She supports Medicare for All, because every family deserves quality, affordable care.

Juliana has always fought for what’s right — even when it wasn’t easy. That’s what makes her special. And that’s why she’ll make an incredible U.S. Senator.

Because when Juliana gets to Washington, she won’t back down to Donald Trump. She won’t cave to corporate special interests. She’ll fight for working families, for affordable health care, for democracy itself — because that’s who she is.
