Dear John:

After 43 days of the Democrat shutdown, last Wednesday night, House Republicans voted to reopen the government, restore pay for our troops and federal workers, support our farmers, and deliver critical care for our veterans. I am proud to say that I voted in favor of this bill, which also included fiscal year 2026 appropriations bills supporting veterans, agriculture, and government operations. You can view more of my remarks regarding reopening the government here

I am grateful this shutdown is over and looking forward to continuing to work for Western Minnesota and the American people.

Key Funding Highlight

This legislation was a major victory for our farmers and military. I just wanted to highlight a few of the biggest wins.

  • $1.4 billion in Farm Service Agency support for farmers and ranchers
  • $4.1 billion to support rural development, including funding for affordable housing rental assistance for low-income families and seniors, and grants for rural businesses
  • $167 billion for veteran care and $263 billion for veteran benefits
  • $19.7 billion for military construction and housing projects

This bill also secured funding in the district for the Kandiyohi Water & Waste Improvement project and the Plummer Sanitary System Improvements project.

Thank You, Alexandria!

I had the opportunity last week to tour the Alexandria Technical and Community College (ATCC) campus and to meet with the Alexandria Lakes Area Chamber of Commerce!

It was great to see the law enforcement training center at ATCC, where they train future officers to support the district, state, and beyond. We had the opportunity to discuss the program's upcoming Global Military Learning Network, which will support service members seeking college degrees, as well as the legislation I sponsored and am working to pass which would create a Law Enforcement Education Grant program for students pursuing a career in law enforcement.

While in Alexandria, I met with members of the local and U.S. Chambers of Commerce to participate in a roundtable discussion on how the Working Families Tax Cut Act is positively impacting their businesses and communities, specifically through changes in taxes and regulations. Thank you to Rep. Mary Franson & Sen. Torrey Westrom for coming along!

Development Discussions

Image

I met with local leaders from the Upper Minnesota Valley Regional Development Commission in Appleton to discuss how federal legislation is impacting local hospitals, schools, and businesses. I look forward to continuing to work alongside communities throughout the district to ensure that their voices are heard in Washington, D.C.
