Dear John,

A child who is absent 10% or more of the school year is considered chronically absent. When a child is chronically absent--no matter the reason--their school success suffers. We can reduce absenteeism simply by making schools a place kids want to be.

"Kids don’t just show up because they’re told to. They show up because it feels good to be there," shared Attendance Works Executive Director Hedy N. Chang.

A newly published study by UC Berkeley found schools with Playworks had lower chronic absence rates than schools without Playworks.

“Playworks is about relationships," said one principal at a Playworks school. "Our teachers often will play the games. When the teacher hops in the game and everyone’s playing together, that builds camaraderie between students and adults.”

The research shows that this increased focus on connection and belonging translates to improved attendance. Head over to our website to learn more <[link removed]>.
Play on,
