Special Edition: COP30 Week Two

Week one of the UN climate summit (COP30) ( [link removed] ) saw several major developments, from the launch of a new forest conservation fund ( [link removed] ) to updated national climate pledges ( [link removed] ) and renewed discussions around ending fossil fuels.

The second and final week needs to see the political willpower to turn talk into real outcomes.

*One key issue is climate adaptation.*

COP30 offers the opportunity for countries to set a new adaptation finance goal ( [link removed] ). Amid record heat, devastating floods and storms, and increasingly destructive fires, *many are calling for a commitment to triple the amount of funds for climate resilience.*

These funds are critical to help countries and communities protect themselves from escalating climate threats — from reinforcing homes and infrastructure to strengthening disaster response systems, planting more resilient crops and more.

Tripling adaptation finance may sound far-fetched, given that climate resilience has been undervalued and underfunded for years. *But a new WRI analysis shows that it’s possible within the next decade.* Indeed, we laid out exactly how it can be done.
