Governor Shapiro has signed a state budget that officially blocks Pennsylvania from joining the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative (RGGI), the most important climate policy available to us at the state level.

The deal is done, and Pennsylvania’s clean energy future was traded away behind closed doors.

This is more than a setback. It’s a massive handout to polluters at the exact moment our communities need bold climate action the most.

Unlike other states that entered RGGI years ago and cut energy bills by 5.7% and saved residents $13.5 billion, Pennsylvania is now stuck on the sidelines. [1]
