Last week, the House passed the Senate’s funding bill for President Trump's signature, finally bringing an end to the longest government shutdown in our nation’s history. Senate Democrats kept the government closed for six weeks, creating unnecessary strain on families, service members, federal employees and small businesses across the country. Here in Florida, delays in federal services added pressure on families and producers who were simply trying to plan for the months ahead.
While we cannot ignore the hardships this shutdown caused, it’s far more important for Congress to do its job and prevent this from happening again. That’s why I voted for clean, responsible funding to reopen the government and restore stability. House Republicans have pushed for commonsense solutions from the start and stayed focused on keeping essential services running while Congress completes its work, despite the political games Democrats chose to play.
We owe the American people better than repeated shutdown brinkmanship. Congress must stay focused, stay disciplined, and deliver the long-term funding agreements that provide certainty for families, businesses and our national security. It’s time to move forward and do the work we were sent here to do. Click here to learn more.
