Eli Crane and Andy Biggs just showed us what happens when judges stand up to the Trump administration.

Recently, Texas Rep. Brandon Gill filed articles of impeachment against U.S. District Judge James Boasberg, the chief judge of the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia. Biggs co-sponsored it. Crane publicly declared his support, saying "these radical judges will never stop unless Congress does its job."

Let's be clear about what Judge Boasberg actually did: He temporarily blocked Trump's illegal mass deportation of hundreds of Venezuelan migrants. He's ruled against other Trump administration policies that violated the law. In other words, he did his job as a federal judge — checking executive overreach and protecting constitutional rights.

Republicans tried impeach him. Well, let’s unseat them. [[link removed]]

This is the MAGA playbook: When judges rule against Trump, Crane and Biggs attack the judiciary itself, calling judges "activists" and "radical" for upholding the law.

Gill accused Boasberg of "weaponizing the judiciary against critics of the Biden Administration" and committing "high crimes and misdemeanors."

Here's what they're not telling you: Other GOP leaders didn't even support these impeachment efforts. Iowa Senator Chuck Grassley, chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee, has said "you can't just impeach a judge just because you disagree with an opinion." California Rep. Darrell Issa said judicial decisions might be "wrong and inappropriate" but still "fall short of high crimes and misdemeanors." Even Chief Justice John Roberts issued a rare statement, saying impeachment is "not an appropriate response" to disagreement with judicial decisions.

But Crane and Biggs don't care. They pushed forward anyway because they know their extremist base demands it.

Crane and Biggs want judges who will bow to Trump rather than uphold the Constitution. They're willing to tear down one of our democracy's most important guardrails to get their way.

Arizona deserves better than representatives who attack judges for doing their jobs.
