Dear Friend,
I wanted to take an opportunity to update you on my recent work during the month of October in Washington, D.C., and Connecticut.
While the government was shut down for a record 43 days due to President Trump refusing to work with Democrats, I continued fighting to protect health care and lower costs for hardworking Americans. On November 12th, the House voted 222-209 to approve the Senate’s continuing resolution (CR) to reopen the government. I voted against this bill because it did nothing to address the Republican health care crisis or to address the rising cost of living. To read my full statement on the passage of this resolution, please click here. If you would like to watch my House floor remarks before the vote was held, please click here.
Rest assured, I will continue to use my voice as your Representative to speak out against devastating cuts to crucial programs proposed by the Trump administration and congressional Republicans. For a more detailed look at what the Republicans’ “Big, Beautiful Law” means for you or your loved ones, please subscribe to our eNewsletter here. My office will continue to send out the most updated information.
Last month, I went on National Public Radio (NPR) to discuss expiring Affordable Care Act (ACA) tax credits and the impacts it will have on millions of Americans. If you missed my segment on NPR, click here to listen.
I joined a letter to Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins urging her to release existing emergency SNAP funding to continue providing benefits for the almost 42 million Americans that rely on this money to feed themselves and their families. The President went all the way to the Supreme Court to avoid using these funds – which are provided by law – to feed hungry families during the government shutdown. I will continue to fight to ensure that families who rely on food stamps receive full November benefits so they can put food on their tables. If you or someone you know needs food immediately, please call 211 or visit their website at 211ct.org.
I was glad to join Representatives John Larson, Joe Courtney, Jim Himes, Jahana Hayes, and the team at Access Health CT to sound the alarm on skyrocketing healthcare costs. Our delegation is fighting on behalf of the American people – if you have been impacted by the expiring ACA tax credits, please share your story here.
On October 8th and 23rd, I held tele-town halls to discuss the cuts to health care and how that will affect the premiums you pay for insurance plans through Access Health Connecticut and updates on Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) funding. If you were unable to attend but are interested in listening to a recorded version, please click here and here.
As the Democratic Co-Chair of the Italian American Congressional Delegation, I led and introduced a bipartisan congressional resolution to declare October as Italian American Heritage Month and honor the histories and contributions of the nearly 20 million Italian American citizens of the United States. To read my press release on this important legislation, click here.
On October 18th, I joined thousands across the country and attended the No Kings rally in Washington, D.C. to declare that we reject tyranny. I stand against violent ICE raids, careless health care cuts, and countless other reckless actions taken by this administration. Public outcry is key to fighting against Trump’s cruel policies.
In New Haven, I attended the ribbon cutting of the ground floor renovation of the Towers at Tower Lane alongside Mayor Jason Elicker and members of our community. With this renovation, the unique independent living community for seniors deeply aligned with Jewish values will provide an even higher quality of life to residents.
In Case You Missed It: I was proud to join members of St. Michael’s Ukrainian Church for their art show supporting wounded soldiers at Zhytomyr Military Hospital. I will continue to stand with Ukraine as they fight for their future as a democracy – until Ukraine is safe and free once more. I am so proud of the work our Ukrainian-American community has done to support the fight for freedom.

Sincerely,
Member of Congress
