Times of Israel: Warming Trump-Sharaa ties put Israel’s feet to fire on emerging Syria security deal Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa likes to move quickly. Eleven months ago, his forces rushed into Damascus to topple longtime Syrian dictator Bashar al-Assad, sparking a dizzying ascent from jihadist warlord into respectable statesman. Within weeks, Washington removed the $10 million bounty on the head of the former al-Qaeda commander, and last week, he became the first Syrian head of state to be hosted by a US president in the Oval Office. For many, the site was a curious spectacle, but for Israel, the latest display of Sharaa’s rising stock on the world stage carries with it important implications for national security. United States Jerusalem Post: October 7 attacks spark surge in ISIS recruitment, interest in radical jihadist terror Investigators stated that the October 7 massacre has radicalized more people and inspired them to join terror groups such as ISIS, CNN reported on Sunday. In an interview with CNN, NYPD Deputy Commissioner of Intelligence & Counterterrorism Rebecca Weiner warned that more people were becoming “self-radicalized” as a result of social media and the terror group’s international outreach. The current ceasefire, which has been in place since early October, is still only in its first phase, as talks on further steps have stalled over the details of Hamas’s demilitarization and the future governance of the Gaza Strip. However, the potential change in the White House’s direction is causing talks with Israel on Gaza’s future to “deadlock,” a source told Channel 13 news. Times of Israel: US: Failure to back UN resolution based on Trump’s Gaza plan is a vote for Hamas, war The UN Security Council will vote Monday on a resolution endorsing US President Donald Trump’s comprehensive Gaza ceasefire plan, diplomats said Saturday, as Washington warned of a “real human cost” if the body doesn’t back the proposal. US Ambassador to the UN Mike Waltz said failure to endorse the plan, which would deliver Gaza to an International Stabilization Force (ISF) and an apolitical Palestinian administration overseen by a Trump-chaired Board of Peace, amounted to support for Hamas and for war.
