The Arlington Chamber of Commerce is calling for nominations to our Board of Directors. We are looking for enthusiastic, driven leaders that are passionate about the Chamber and want to help us expand membership and achieve our mission.
To be considered for Board service, a Chamber member must be in good standing and be able to fulfill the following responsibilities:
-
Prepare for and attend Board Meetings. Board members are expected to review the meeting packets in advance and attend regularly scheduled Board meetings.
-
Participate in Chamber Events and Activities. Board members are expected to demonstrate leadership and participate in events and other activities offered by the Chamber. In addition, Directors should encourage and assist members to do the same.
-
Support the Chamber Financially. In addition to their membership dues, Directors will pay an annual assessment to cover the cost of luncheons, mailings and associated administrative expenses. Beyond this assessment, Directors should consider the Chamber as a focused recipient of community engagement resources from their organization.
-
Encourage others to join the Chamber. The foundation of the Chamber is a stable and growing membership. Directors should be champions of the Chamber and actively encouraging others to join.
View the full list of Board expectations. For any member wishing to nominate another member, member approval is requested. Please email nominations, including name and business name, with the subject line "Board of Directors Nomination" to Kate Bates, Chamber President & CEO, at [email protected]. The deadline for nominations is Monday, September 17.

"Build Your Workforce through Registered Apprenticeship"
Wednesday, August 28
11:45 a.m.-1:00 p.m.
Arlington Chamber of Commerce – VIDA Fitness Boardroom
This month's Small Business Roundtable topic is "Build Your Workforce through Registered Apprenticeship" presented by Caleb Wade, Lead Generation Specialist - Division of Registered Apprenticeship, Virginia Department of Labor and Industry. Learn how Registered Apprenticeship can help improve employee retention, and let you create mirror images of your best employees. Traditionally a resource for trade industries including plumbing, electric, HVAC, and cosmetology, Registered Apprenticeship is now also utilized by businesses working in IT, cybersecurity, health, insurance, hospitality, and more. Participation in the Registered Apprenticeship Program is free, and programs can be customized to industry needs. Registered Apprenticeship consultants work with businesses to walk them through every step of the process, from developing their apprenticeship program to signing their first apprentice and beyond.
This event is designed to help you discover if a Registered Apprenticeship Program could be a fit for your workforce needs. This is a great opportunity for Human Resources professionals looking for ways to improve and strengthen your company's workforce. The roundtable is free to members but space is limited and registration is requested.

By Olivia McKay, Arlington Chamber of Commerce
It’s hard to believe that my time at the Chamber has now exceeded a full year. Over the course of my first year, I’ve had the opportunity to work directly with our members, and have developed a vast understanding of the Arlington business community fabric. Whether that be attending an Arlington County Board meeting to pass out stickers to support the Amazon incentive package or holding a forum for our nonprofit members to learn from industry experts – I’ve seen the impact that the Chamber has on the community. ...To continue reading, view our blog.

Chamber Members Discuss Local Issues with County Board Member

Last week, Chamber members welcomed Matt de Ferranti from the Arlington County Board at the Government Affairs & Economic Development Committee. de Ferranti shared his experience during his first six months on the Arlington County Board with the committee. He engaged members of the committee in a broad discussion that touched on economic development, permitting, transportation, and housing. de Ferranti seeks continuous feedback from the community, and welcomes input from the Chamber on issues facing Arlington’s businesses.
The Government Affairs & Economic Development committee will continue its discussions with policymakers in September, this time turning to Richmond, when it welcomes members of Arlington’s General Assembly delegation.
