John,
This morning, my sweet little Daniel should have started eighth grade – his last year of middle school. But he never will, because he was murdered in his first-grade classroom at Sandy Hook Elementary. Every minute of every day since then, I've felt constant heartache. But there are certain milestones, like today, that leave me breathless.
I miss him to my core. I miss his face, his voice, his warm hugs. I miss how he would excitedly describe every detail of his first day of school. What would he have worn? Would his sister, Natalie, have driven him to school, or would he still have ridden the bus?
I'll never know. All I can do is spend today and every day making good on the promise I made when Daniel was murdered: to do whatever it takes to make sure no other parent suffers through this never-ending agony.
Right now, that means securing every dollar of a generous match to expand our lifesaving programs this school year – but we're still $218,513 short of our goal. Children's lives are at risk if we fall short, so please – will you donate as much as you can right now, before our deadline at midnight on Thursday, to have every dollar go twice as far to help us protect more children from gun violence?
Please rush $10, or as much as you can, to Sandy Hook Promise right away. Your gift is critical to helping us prevent school shootings and protect more children from gun violence this school year, and every dollar you give will be doubled before Thursday.

We're getting flooded with requests to bring our no-cost gun violence prevention programs to districts across the country as school starts again. But we can't expand our work to protect children from gun violence and prevent school shootings without your help, and that means giving whatever you can right now to help us reach our goal.
I'll never stop missing Daniel – whether it's the first day of school, a summer afternoon at the pool, or a winter morning enjoying twinkling Christmas lights at sunrise. The only way I can get through this pain is by continuing to work every day to save other families from going through it. That's what keeps me going.
Thank you for supporting this vital work, especially on days like today.
Mark Barden (Daniel's father)
