Every day, the civil war in Sudan takes more and more from families under siege. Money, livestock, and property are being stolen, along with the health and futures of their children.

Two years of conflict has created the world’s largest humanitarian crisis, with 3 million children under the age of five suffering from acute malnutrition. 70 to 80% of health facilities are barely operational or are closed completely. Women and newborns are facing deadly, famine-like conditions.

One mother at Bashaer Hospital was forced to make an impossible choice: save one of her malnourished children, or see them both perish.

“I can't afford to save both twins,” she said, grief-stricken. "I wish they could both recover and grow, and that I could watch them walking and playing together as they did before. I am alone. I have nothing. I have only God."

There are an estimated 272,000 displaced pregnant women across Sudan. More than 1.1 million pregnant women overall lack access to essential services , including prenatal and postpartum support for survivors of rape who become pregnant.

Zahra , 36 years old, mother of six children, displaced to Kassala, shared her suffering over her inability to return to Khartoum: "I cannot return. I do not have the money for transportation costs. Our homes are destroyed, and there are no available services. Who will take care of us if we return?"

Women and girls who fled and suffered atrocities in El Fasher continue their journey of suffering. Safety, dignity, and healthcare are basic human rights that have been stolen from them. We are doing all we can with what we have, but we urgently need more support to save lives.
