News From Congressman Bilirakis

Co

November 16, 2025

Dear Neighbor,

I was grateful that eight of my Democrat colleagues in the Senate finally agreed to end the pain and chaos caused by their manufactured crisis which led to the longest government shutdown in our nation’s history. I was proud to travel to Washington to cast my vote to reopen the government.  The shutdown caused hardship for millions of vulnerable Americans, slowed our economy, and created significant travel delays nationwide. Unfortunately, it will take some time for our transportation systems and economy to fully recover.

The package signed into law extends government funding at current levels through January 30, 2026 for most federal departments and programs, while also providing full-year funding for the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), legislative branch operations, military construction and the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA).  The House and Senate will work until the end of January to negotiate differences on the remaining funding bills. My colleagues and I return to D.C. tomorrow, committed to securing a good deal for all Americans.  Please continue reading for a recap of my work on your behalf last week.

Honoring Our Heroes:  Last week, we honored the brave men and women who have worn our nation’s uniform. Their courage, sacrifice, and unwavering commitment to protecting our freedoms represent the very best of America.  To all who have served—and to the families who stand beside them—thank you. My team and I were honored to attend Veterans Day celebrations across Pasco, Hernando, and Citrus Counties. It was truly inspiring to see our community come together to celebrate our heroes.

It was also a privilege to serve as guest speaker at VetFest25 in Hernando County. Seeing community leaders and young people unite to support our Veterans and their families for a weekend long event that provided resources and support to Veterans and their families reminded me of what true dedication to country looks like.

In addition to Veterans, our first responders also embody heroism, which is why I was honored to participate in the Tunnel to Towers 5K and Museum Memorial, a moving tribute to our first responders, service members, and all who have made the ultimate sacrifice for our nation.

Advancing Parkinson’s Research:  Millions of Americans are affected by Parkinson’s disease. I’m honored to work alongside dedicated advocacy organizations fighting for a cure and better quality of life for patients and families. Click here to learn more about my efforts.

Supporting Vulnerable Children:  I was honored to attend the 4th Annual Paint the Night Blue event supporting Pasco Kids First—an incredible local organization helping children who have experienced trauma, neglect, and abuse.  Their work makes a real difference, and I’m proud to stand with them in building a safer, stronger future for every child.

Protecting Access to AM Radio:  Each hurricane season, Floridians rely on timely and accurate information to make life-saving decisions. For many—especially in rural and underserved areas—AM radio remains a critical source of emergency communication and diverse viewpoints.  With the majority of listening taking place outside the home, it’s essential that AM radio remain readily available in all vehicles. I’m proud to support legislation that ensures this valuable tool remains accessible to every American. Learn more here.

Raising Awareness:  As Co-Chair of the Congressional Diabetes Caucus, I remain committed to ensuring the millions of Americans living with diabetes have access to the resources and treatments they need. Together, we’re working to expand education on diabetes risks, strengthen investments in research, and accelerate progress toward a cure for this challenging disease.

Community Connection

I am fortunate to have a team of dedicated staff who regularly attend events throughout our community, especially when I am required to be in Washington, DC. Through their collective efforts, I am better able to stay connected to the issues that matter most to my constituents. As part of my commitment to developing a better understanding of the issues facing constituents in Citrus, Hernando and Pasco counties, members of my team attended several events last week. Here are a few highlights.

It was an honor for my team to present my official remarks, entered into the Congressional Record, to Lewis Unterman, a remarkable World War II Veteran celebrating his 100th birthday. What an incredible milestone for an American hero!

My team was also honored to attend the Marine Corps Ball in Inverness, commemorating the 250th birthday of the United States Marine Corps.  It was an inspiring evening celebrating the bravery, dedication, and proud traditions of our Marines!

Additionally, my team had the pleasure of attending the Area Agency on Aging of Pasco and Pinellas Counties’ Annual Luncheon. This outstanding organization plays a vital role in supporting our vulnerable seniors and neighbors with disabilities, ensuring they receive the care, respect, and resources they deserve.  It was truly a blessing to join in celebrating the dedicated staff and volunteers whose compassion and hard work make such a meaningful difference in the lives of so many throughout our community.

Constituent Corner

My team recently received this message from a constituent after my team helped with his VA Community Care issue.

I am pleased to report that my issue with the VA Community Care Services seems to have been resolved.  On November 4, 2025, I received a call from Mr. Ray Vaillant that my request to have my dental extraction conducted locally by Coastal Jaw Surgery, of Spring Hill, was approved.  Furthermore Maryann, a VA Community Care Services Representative, called me on November 5, 2025, and reiterated that Coastal Jaw Surgery would be contacting me to make an appointment for my tooth extraction. The speed with which you accomplished, what I could not, was truly remarkable.  You, and your staff are to commended for providing me, and other constituents of Representative Gus Bilirakis, which such superior service.

This  is just one example of the work we do each day. Constituent services are a critical element of our congressional office.  The federal government is a massive operation, and my office is available if you ever need assistance in navigating the bureaucracy or cutting through red tape.  Also, if you are planning a trip to Washington, DC please let us know 90 days in advance so we can help make the most of your visit.   We are here to serve you!

Sincerely,
