PUBLIC NOTICE

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT:

Congressman Al Green and Congresswoman Sylvia Garcia Lead Letter Calling on Governor Abbott to Set Runoff Date for the Current 18th Congressional District

(Houston, TX)— On Saturday, November 15, 2025, Congressman Al Green released the following statement: I am proud to co-lead the attached letter with Congresswoman Sylvia Garcia—strongly urging Governor Abbott to announce and hold the runoff election for the current 18th Congressional District of Texas as soon as possible. Presently, two elections are being considered for the 18th Congressional District. The first election is to complete the unexpired term of Congressman Sylvester Turner, which Governor Abbott should set for the earliest date possible.  The second election is the March 3, 2026 primary election to elect a permanent representative for the newly redrawn 18th Congressional District. Again, I strongly encourage the governor to have the runoff date for the remainder of Congressman Sylvester Turner’s term set as expeditiously as possible. While I and other members have been assisting constituents of the current 18th Congressional District, there should be an elected congressperson to serve the unexpired term of Congressman Sylvester Turner until January 2027.  In doing this, it would help constituents, as well as voters, who are confused about the various elections to better understand that there are two different elections being considered in close proximity to each other.

A copy of the letter is attached below.
