Dear John,

This week on our Ugly Politix Substack ([link removed]) , I dug into the strange theatre of modern politics: the paddle-boards, the awkward pints, and the ever-present high-vis vests.

It’s about why most attempts at “authenticity” feel so painfully fake – and why a couple of figures, Zohran Mamdani in New York and Zack Polanski here in the UK, seem to be cutting through anyway.

Their edge isn’t just TikTok finesse or natural charm. It’s that they offer a clear vision and speak like they actually believe in it. When politicians are boxed in by donors and consultants, voters sense it instantly. When they’re not, it shows.

Give it a read – and let me know what you think in the comments. Does politics generally feel fake to you? And do you sense a genuine difference in figures like Mamdani and Polanski? Have they taken a leaf out of the “unfiltered” Farage playbook?

Remember: the explosive growth of UglyPolitix has been fuelled by our readers’ likes, shares, and comments. It’s completely free to do and helps us massively. Keep it up!

P.S. We were very honoured to be featured in The Bear’s newsletter ([link removed]) this week, here’s what he had to say about UglyPolitix:

"Ugly Politix, which includes contributors like Mark Kieran ([link removed]) , Matt Gallagher ([link removed]) and James Patrick ([link removed]) is a publication aimed at not only politics, but democracy - with both reform and protection being in their sights. The publication offers compelling opinion pieces that make me, for one, at least think about things differently. It goes beyond just the political news, and adds a constitutional lens that I’ve personally found very helpful.”
