One Great Video

By now you have figured out that I love the State of Gold Podcast series. Jon Slavet does a great job landing interviews with people here in the Golden State that matter, and talking to them in medium-form interviews that typically run 20 minutes or so. Here he is talking with Susan Shelley of the Howard Jarvis Taxpayers Association. Susan is wicked-smart and knows California policy well. Just give someone your car keys so you don’t try to leave the state after hearing her talk…

The theme of this video fits in with my video above, and with the column I am running tomorrow morning!

FOMO? No no.

There were a number of other posts last week that you will not want to have missed. If you want to check them out, you can go to the archive here and scroll down!

ON THIS DATE IN 1907 THE LATE BURGESS MERIDETH WAS BORN. AN AMAZING ACTOR WHO PLAYED ICONIC ROLES

Burgess Meredith (November 16, 1907 – September 9, 1997) remains one of Hollywood’s most versatile and enduring performers. His career stretched more than six decades, moving seamlessly between stage, film, and television. To many, he’s forever Mickey Goldmill—the tough, gravel-voiced trainer who pushed Rocky Balboa to greatness. But Meredith’s range went far beyond Rocky: he was a two-time Oscar nominee, a gifted character actor, and a performer who elevated every project he touched.

He made an indelible mark as the Penguin in the 1960s Batman series, creating a blend of humor and villainy that still shapes the character today. Classic TV fans also remember him from The Twilight Zone, especially the iconic episode “Time Enough at Last.” Off-screen, Meredith served in the U.S. Army Air Forces during World War II and later worked as a director and narrator.

On his birthday, we honor a true Hollywood original whose legacy still resonates.

Here’s a great clip from the film Rocky V … Merideth plays boxer Rocky Balboa’s trainer. In this clip Mickey comes back from the beyond to buck up Rocky…

Have a great Sunday. If you are in SoCal, try to stay dry!
