The White House is in damage control mode. But instead of addressing the record number of COVID-19 cases across the country, the Trump administration is running a PR campaign―reacting to Trump’s sinking poll numbers by attacking the top infectious disease doctor in the country.

Apparently Dr. Anthony Fauci’s sobering assessment of the U.S. response to the pandemic is not what the White House wants to hear.

It’s unacceptable that the two people leading the administration’s pandemic response―Vice President Mike Pence and senior White House advisor Jared Kushner―consistently deny the science behind the pandemic while putting corporate interests ahead of human need.

We need Dr. Fauci.

Over the weekend, anonymous Trump staffers activated a smear campaign in the press about Dr. Anthony Fauci, the head of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases.

With new COVID cases breaking records every day, why is the President sidelining Dr. Fauci and elevating his son-in-law? Our pandemic response must be led by experts, like Fauci, not wealthy political hacks who think they’re experts, like Jared Kushner.

The Trump administration is treating the COVID crisis as a PR problem instead of what it is―a public health crisis that has taken the lives of more than 135,000 Americans.

Nearly 50,000 nursing home residents have died. And Republicans are focused not on stopping the virus, but on exploiting the crisis to destroy Social Security (including not addressing a glitch that would result in four million people receiving lower Social Security benefits).

Instead of taking steps to get the pandemic under control, as the rest of the world did, Trump is still treating this as a PR crisis for his re-election.
