Hey y’all, it’s been a while since I sent an update from the road, so I thought I’d share some highlights from the last few months. I believe politics should be about listening first, so I’ve been really focused on sitting down and having face-to-face conversations with folks in every corner of Texas.
Fall in Texas means football – from Friday night lights to Saturday tailgates, that’s where we come together. So I’ve been traveling all over the state, attending high school and college football games, cheering on the players, and talking to the teachers, parents, and other folks in the stands.
I remember when I was a kid, my mom was teaching all day, working an extra job in the evenings, and watching me play sports on the weekends, so she didn’t have time to attend political rallies or town halls. But that didn’t mean she didn’t want or deserve to be heard.
That’s why I’m going out into communities and meeting people where they are – watching their kids play football, picking up groceries, worshiping at church on Sundays, and everywhere in between. I’m making sure folks know I’m listening and I’m ready to be a voice for all of us in the Senate.
October 18 kicked off a busy weekend in H-town. I was proud to join thousands of folks at City Hall in Houston and millions across the country in the No Kings protest to defend our democracy from Donald Trump’s abuses of power.
I was so inspired by all the folks I met – and by the photos and videos I saw from all over the country (if you joined a No Kings protest, too, I’d love to hear about it in the comments). Because protesting is our constitutional right. When our government fails us, like it is right now, we have a right to raise our voices and make folks in power hear us loud and clear. It was an incredible reminder that when we stand up and fight together, we all win, and so does democracy.
Next up that weekend I stopped by an all-union grocery store with UFCW Local 455 union reps to pick up a shift and talk with their members and their customers about the affordability crisis we’re all facing. And I even found some time to throw a football around at the Texas Southern University tailgate.
It’d be impossible for me to tell you about every stop and every person I’ve met on the campaign trail so far (my Instagram [ [link removed] ] is a good place to follow along if you want more regular updates), but each and every conversation I have is shaping this campaign and the Senator I will be.
When I get to Washington, I’ll be thinking about the hardworking crew at Nando’s tortillería down in the Rio Grande Valley and how Trump’s tariffs are impacting their small business. I’ll be thinking about the students at Prairie View who are worried not just about the exorbitant cost of tuition, but also about housing, food, parking, and more. And I’ll be thinking about the grocery store workers in Houston who are struggling to afford the food they’re selling.
These aren’t abstract issues to me – they are real people I’ve met all over Texas who are up against a rigged economy and a man-made affordability crisis that Republicans like Donald Trump, John Cornyn, and Ken Paxton are making worse, not better. I’m ready to fight for everyday Texans and unrig our economy (you can read through my full plan to do so here [ [link removed] ]), and I hope you’ll join me, and if you can, chip in a few bucks [ [link removed] ] to help me keep connecting with folks all over Texas.
Traveling all over Texas, I’m constantly reminded of what makes our state so great – the kindness, the warmth, the community – and yes, the incredible food. It makes me more inspired than ever to keep fighting to make it the best it can be for every Texan.
Thanks for being with me in this fight,
Colin
Colin Allred is a fourth-generation Texan, former NFL player, civil rights lawyer, and Democratic Congressman running for U.S. Senate in what experts are calling one of the most competitive races in the country.
Early polls show Colin can win, but with corporate PACs and right-wing millionaires pouring money into Texas to stop him, he relies on supporters like you to fund his campaign. If you agree that it’s time for a new generation of leaders in Washington, please chip in now to help Colin flip Texas and the Senate blue. [ [link removed] ]
